Peer Blog Review Task

For the Peer Blog Review Task I chose to review "Jake's Blog", http://jakeclaven.blogspot.com/

Jake's Blog is a collection of highly original works, and the work posted in this blog has drawn good inspiration from previous work but all of the work is very original. Works such as "The Ugly Duckling" remake and the Environmental Social Conscience task have been well edited, using PhotoShop as the main editing program. The creator uses a very simplistic style, whilst bold writing, 3-or-4 colour schemes and bright colours are very characteristic of their design style, all of which help to convey a strong message to its targeted audiences.

The "Lasers" CD Cover was, in my opinion, the best piece of work created as it recreated an album cover that had already been released but took a different take on what the creator believed it really meant. The CD Cover is visually appealing and uses a vast combination of PhotoShop editing techniques to achieve a laser-type effect.

"The Ugly Bionicle" Storyboard - Intro and Story

I have created a title sequence and storyboard for a CGI film called "The Ugly Bionicle", inspired by "The Ugly Duckling" from Hans Christian Andersen. I aimed to keep a consistent design in the opening title images, using LEGO blocks for the writing font and a classical ribbon-style look so that the images are inclusive of Andersen's style. I used PhotoShop to edit the images of the LEGO Bionicle toys in a simple way but to add a feeling of a progressive story and to outline the overall plotline of the story.

“Sports Weekly” Sports Magazine Design Brief

The sports magazine publishers, designers, editing team, and owners of “Sports Weekly” wish to revamp the look and design of their magazine, stemming from the front cover to the general layout, style, and colour scheme of the magazine. The Sports Weekly team has been running the magazine for two years in Australia and has had great success in selling copies in metropolitan areas of Australia.
The Sports Weekly team is now looking to increase the number of consumers and subscribers, and also to change the face of the magazine in order to make their product more marketable. The stakeholders of Sports Weekly wish to increase their revenue in order to release Sports Weekly around the globe in countries such as the USA and the UK, as well as to sell translated versions in other parts of the world such as Europe.
“Sports Weekly” stands well in the Australian market and is one of the best-selling magazines, standing up to competitors such as “Alpha Magazine” and “Men’s Fitness Magazine” as it offers in-depth previews and reviews of major sporting events around the world such as the UEFA Champions League, the NBA, the FIFA World Cup, the Olympic Games, and the four Grand Slams of Tennis, as well as exclusive weekly interviews with the world’s greatest sports-people, and reports on improvement of sports participation and sporting programs around the world.
The magazine targets sports fans of all ages, but is suited mostly for people who play sport themselves as there are many articles that discuss the correct dieting methods, fitness programs and techniques required to play sport, as well as regular updates on professional sporting events.
The message that the owners of Sports Weekly want to send across to consumers of the magazine is that all people can play sport and can be empowered through sport, and the new design should help to send across this informative message to engage readers and promote the magazine on a world-wide scale.
The owners of “Sports Weekly” want a simplistic but modern look for their magazine, following the pictographic style for their illustrations, which will be used on the front cover and throughout the magazine in articles. Their preferred colour-scheme would have no more than three colours, all of which complement each other and gives the magazine a solid look but does not draw the reader’s attention away from the magazine’s content.

Design With a Social Conscience

For this assignment I made a series of posters tackling racism around the world, named "Say No To Racism". The posters target people of all races from around the world and promote Football as a medium against racism and a way of uniting the world through sport. For the first poster Didier Drogba and Cristiano Ronaldo run the campaign and are a real-life example that people of all races can live together and that we can rid the world of racism. The second poster was created to contrast the similarities and differences between different races.

"A Line Is A Dot That Went For A Walk" Assignment

My interpretation of the quote "A line is a dot that went for a walk" is that of a dot that takes small steps to reach it's destination. Using PhotoShop I traced the outline of a Futsal player kicking a ball by using the paintbrush tool and progressively making dots along the outline. As the dot takes steps towards the end of the outline it becomes tired and thins out, but reaches it's destination in the end.

Merging Photoshop PDS Files Into Video

Editing Videos in "Motion" - Primatte RT + Oscillate Tools

I made this video using the program "Motion" to edit a video filmed behind a green screen and make the background a different colour while keeping the objects (in this case the two dancing men) in tact by using the Primatte RT function.

I then added a rectangular shape as a background and put three circles in front of the background. I made them move by Oscillating them and then exported my edited video to a QuickTime format.

3D Lettering in Photoshop CS5

Using the 3D Repousse function in Photoshop CS5 I created a 3D font and then edited to give it a rounder, more inflated shape and chose a texture resembling that of Weet-Bix. After that I duplicated the text layer, inersed it and added a gradient effect to it to make it seem like a reflection of the original text. Then I created a grey border which I blurred to add a vignette effect.

Vignette Task

I found a photo of flowers on the internet and created a vignette effect, bringing attention to the flowers by making them lighter in colour.

First IT Assignment: Rubbish Fonts

Denis Zilic - 3886914
Here is my Rubbish Font Assignment :)

My definition of "rubbish" is something that is a hinderance and that is a negative thing. I chose to make a font comprised of cigarettes because I believe smoking to be "rubbish" in the sense that it is harmful to the body and produces wastes in the body.
My intended audience is all font-users and creators in general who are looking for an unusual font.

First I found a photo of cigarettes on the internet.

I then deleted one of the cigarettes using the Magic Wand and Quick Selection tools.

This photo was then the basis for creating the letters.

Through the use of overlapping layers I created the letters of the alphabet.

I tried to maintain consistency in the size, shape and spacing of the letters.

The end product :)

Visual Design for Digital Media

Welcome to my new Visual design Blog !!

My name is Denis, I have a high interest in all things to do with technology but I need to brush up on my Photoshop skills and so on.

Previously I've created videos (just for fun though) but I would like to master the art of Photoshopping and Web Design.

To me Visual Design is a great form of expression although I'm more of a perceiver than a creator when it comes to Digital Media but this will serve as a large motivator for me to finally learn the tricks of Visual Design.
